microbiology rapid algorithm for meningitis and pneumonia, I want to make sure my approach to using age group, Gram stain morphology, and CSF glucose/protein profiles under timed conditions is solid under real exam and clinical conditions.
I am five weeks out from Step 1 and doing two 40-question mixed timed blocks per day. My problem is that reviewing those 80 questions plus keeping up with my daily flashcard queue is pushing my study day past eleven hours, and my accuracy on the afternoon block drops noticeably.
For those who passed comfortably, how did you cap flashcard review time during dedicated without forgetting microbiology and pharmacology details?

For microbiology rapid algorithm for meningitis and pneumonia, focusing directly on using age group, Gram stain morphology, and CSF glucose/protein profiles under timed conditions makes the decision tree much cleaner.
During dedicated, questions have to be the primary driver and flashcards have to serve your missed concepts, not the other way around. I set a hard 90-minute ceiling on flashcard reviews first thing in the morning and suspended cards on organ systems where my practice block accuracy was already consistently above 75 percent.
For the two daily blocks, try doing both blocks back-to-back in the morning to simulate exam stamina while your mind is fresh, then spend the early afternoon reviewing explanations. When you review a question, write a two-line note capturing the single clinical clue you missed and only unsuspended or created 1 to 2 cards per missed item.

Do not be afraid to take one half-day off every seven days during dedicated. My NBME practice performance jumped the week after I actually rested on a Sunday afternoon.

For microbiology, sketching a one-page gram-positive and gram-negative algorithm on blank paper twice a week replaced hundreds of isolated bug cards.

Quality of explanation review always beats raw card count in the final month.
