Ngl I thought I had getting the most out of operating room teaching as an MS3 down cold after my first pass of qbank, but my last two blocks proved me completely wrong lol. The stems keep testing introducing yourself to the scrub tech and circulating nurse first thing, pulling your own gown and gloves, and helping position/transfer the patient and knowing the patient’s HPI, indication for surgery, relevant CT/US imaging, and 3 key anatomic landmarks before scrubbing in in super subtle ways.
How are you guys spotting asking 1 thoughtful question during a calm part of the case (never during critical dissection or bleeding) fast enough on timed mode without getting baited by contaminating the sterile field bc you did not ask where to rest your hands or stepping back without telling anyone when feeling lightheaded?
Context: currently while reviewing my 3rd nbme form after missing two similar stems.

I had the exact same issue w/ getting the most out of operating room teaching as an MS3 when I was while reviewing my 3rd nbme form. What finally fixed it for me is asking 1 thoughtful question during a calm part of the case (never during critical dissection or bleeding).
Whenever you see introducing yourself to the scrub tech and circulating nurse first thing, pulling your own gown and gloves, and helping position/transfer the patient in the stem, pause for two seconds and look specifically for knowing the patient’s HPI, indication for surgery, relevant CT/US imaging, and 3 key anatomic landmarks before scrubbing in before peeking at the answer choices. That way contaminating the sterile field bc you did not ask where to rest your hands or stepping back without telling anyone when feeling lightheaded cannot bait you after missing two similar stems. Once I started doing that on every block, getting the most out of operating room teaching as an MS3 went from my worst section to basically free points.

Same here! English is my second language too and long stems on getting the most out of operating room teaching as an MS3 used to eat my clock while reviewing my 3rd nbme form after missing two similar stems. Reading the last line + introducing yourself to the scrub tech and circulating nurse first thing, pulling your own gown and gloves, and helping position/transfer the patient first makes it way faster.

If you are while reviewing my 3rd nbme form after missing two similar stems, dont beat yourself up over getting the most out of operating room teaching as an MS3 misses rn — missing knowing the patient’s HPI, indication for surgery, relevant CT/US imaging, and 3 key anatomic landmarks before scrubbing in on qbank today means you will spot it immediately on exam day.
